Current Projects

EuroFIR AISBL has been an active participant in EU-funded projects since 2009. These projects cover risk-benefit analysis of food supplements containing non-nutritive bioactive compounds, food information and traceability in the food chain, and improving European nutrition through a fully evidence-based profession of dietetics. Over the years we have demonstrated our expertise across two areas:

Scientific research:

We have significant expertise in nutrition and food composition which has been applied in the development of new web-based tools, for example ePlantLIBRA, contributed to the development of food composition databases, and applied the knowledge, for example in food labelling. The tools, and the data therein, can be applied in numerous projects, from food waste to personalised nutrition. Our technical expertise is used in the development in the core principles of EuroFIR, namely standardising and harmonising food composition data, globally.


Over the years, we have developed considerable expertise in online and offline communication. We have organized a variety of stakeholder events, from conferences and workshops, to webinars and seminars. We have developed, and maintain several websites, and social media accounts for a variety of projects. These communications are underpinned by stakeholder analysis and community engagement.

Aims to identify and address barriers and facilitators in the use of sweeteners and sweetness enhancers (S&SEs) and examine risks and benefits of using these to replace sugar in the diet, in the contexts of health, obesity, safety and (food) sustainability.

Aims to develop a ‘Framework for Action’ model based on strategic agreements across all stages of the supply chain. EuroFIR will develop a compositional database which provides users with ready access to the biochemical composition of agri-food chain waste streams.

Will generate new knowledge to develop commercial solutions for improving the socio-economic and environmental sustainability of the European seafood production and processing industry. EuroFIR is participating in the work packages responsible for dissemination and market acceptability.

Aims to deliver a digital platform, as a basis for personalised nutrition services in Europe, managed through a non-profit organisation.
